Hip Surveillance One in three children with cerebral palsy will develop hip problems. Early detection through a hip surveillance program can preserve a child’s functions and prevent pain. Using a physical therapy clinical exam and radiologic assessment of hip migration percentage, the integrity of the hip can be successfully identified and monitored. When migration percentage and/or clinical assessment detects early hip problems, referral to a pediatric orthopedic physician is recommended.
