Mother and Baby Unit More babies are born at Community Children’s than at any other hospital in Western Montana — over 1,000 per year. Our Mother Baby Unit combines state-of-the-art technology with a personal touch to ensure the best-possible family-centered care, from day one. The entire family is welcome here as the family celebrates the new arrival. Babies “room-in” with mothers and family where infant bonding is encouraged. We also encourage and support parental birthing plans, with available nurse midwives, family physicians and obstetricians. Our family-centered birth center offers birthing rooms for the labor-and-delivery process and large “couplet care” rooms for mother and baby after the birth. These rooms are designed to accommodate the entire family if the new mother desires. In the rare circumstance where your pregnancy needs advanced care we have an entire platform devoted to high-risk mothers and their newborns. We have antepartum rooms for expectant mothers who require hospitalization during their pregnancy and care from our in-house high-risk maternal fetal medicine specialists; a dedicated Caesarean surgical suite is ready and waiting if the need arises. Our neonatal services team offers the most advanced neonatal care in the state and is on continuous standby for complex deliveries. All newborns undergo screening for genetic conditions and hearing prior to discharge. We also offer a Child Seat Safety Program staffed by certified child passenger safety technicians. Tours We offer tours of the Labor and Delivery and Mother and Baby units — an excellent opportunity for prospective new patients and their families to get acquainted with our state-of-the-art facilities and services.
