He completed a residency and fellowship in Clinical Genetics at the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he was the recipient of the Margaret Ellen Nielsen Fellowship Award in Genetic Medicine. He came to Montana initially as a scientist working on the molecular genetics of Lyme disease at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Hamilton, MT. He is affiliate professor at the University of Montana, Department of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has worked as a developer and reviewer for CME activities with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics (NCHPEG) and the Jackson Laboratories.
