Emergency Medicine

The state of Montana has officially designated Community Medical Center as a Pediatric Prepared Facility. Our 13-bed Emergency Room has specially equipped rooms to address any pediatric emergency and includes a pediatric-equipped resuscitation room for the most severely injured children.

We know emergency rooms can be scary, so we strive to make every child’s emergency room experience as smooth as possible. Our emergency department team includes physicians, nurses, pediatric respiratory therapists and a pharmacist. When necessary, a pediatric intensive care unit or PICU nurse assists the emergency department team and then accompanies the child upstairs to our PICU, providing a familiar face and continuity of care for families.

Our emergency department physicians are supported by team of board-certified pediatric specialists that includes pediatric hospitalists, pediatric critical care physicians, a pediatric pulmonologist, a pediatric surgeon and a pediatric gastroenterologist, to name a few.

We also offer a free 24-7 Nurse on Call telephone service to help families evaluate when it’s time to bring a child in for an emergency — or whether the medical issue can be handled by the child’s primary care provider the following day.
